Today started off with a headache and his pain was about an 8. Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy came today for an evaluation, and he was able to walk a short distance outside of the room with the assistance of a walker.
The doctors are happy with the way things are going, and his blood work continues to trend in the right direction. Rusty was trying to hold out and not push his pain button, but I kept reminding him that the new pain medication can take 3–7 days to fully work. He’s stubborn and always tries to tough it out. Thankfully, the doctors convinced him to use the pain button so he doesn’t have to suffer unnecessarily. We had one of our very favorite nurses again today and hope we get her again tomorrow (Thank you Lexie)
We also had AJ’s planned visit to stay the night. The Caldwells brought us supplies from home for Rusty’s PleurX drain since they’re in short supply here and apparently on backorder.
Our biggest surprise today was Aspen walking through the door! Thank you, Tayler, for suggesting she come. We have a pretty great son-in-law. ❤️ Aspen brought us Cakesickles, and Rusty absolutely devoured the Nutter Butter one.
A huge thank you to Willie for hanging out with Rusty while us girls went to do laundry. Rusty refuses to wear the hospital gowns, and today marks one week in the hospital, so it was definitely time! Thankfully, even though we originally came for just one night, I packed what I normally would for an entire week… just in case.
Today Rusty ate three pieces of pizza, a little ice cream, and about the equivalent of a whole peach thanks to AJ bringing us freeze-dried peaches. Seeing his appetite continue to return is such an encouragement.
Once the headache lifted, all in all, it was a really positive day. We continue to see small victories, and we’re so thankful for each one. Thank you all for the prayers, messages, visits, and love you’ve shown us. We truly feel carried by all of you. ❤️
